The NML is exploring various tools of nanotechnology to employ them in biomedical application. Our team develops novel nano-bio platforms for probing a small amount of various biomarkers quantitatively and dynamically. The primary nano-bio approach employs nanoconstructs (quantum dots, magnetic particles, protein, peptide constructs, engineered viruses etc.) to capture bio-molecules/bacteria/toxins in a high sensitivity and specificity. From those data, we aim to build detailed profiles that describe the state and evolution of the target biomolecules. The applications for these technologies that we are pursuing include multiparametric characterization of rare cells, biomolecules, discovery of new therapies, and immunological monitoring.

 The lab itself is an interdisciplinary and team-oriented environment. Our team applies concepts and techniques from material science, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, biology and biomedical engineering to address clinical questions in cell biology, cancer research, stem cell research, tissue engineering, pathogen monitoring, nano-antibiotics, etc. We value expertise from a range of backgrounds relevant to these areas of research.

 The long-term objectives of our work is the transfer of our novel nano-bio technologies into clinical laboratories for extended use in biomedical research.
